  • Does the idea of a stranger telling you random facts about yourself intrigue you? Then you'll want to catch mentalist Dan Cain's performance at the Riverfront Theatre on Friday titled "Experiments of the Mind."
Cain will have at least two other mind-bending treats for audiences at the show, which will include bringing two patrons on stage and fostering a real-time connection between the two people by having one of them do strange things to the other such as making them raise their arms against their own will just by pointing at them. In addition, Cain will reveal messages that audience members will write on slips of paper without ever seeing the messages.
What's more, one audience member will have the chance to win some cash at the show. Cain will have two sealed envelopes on stage, and audience members must guess the amount in the envelopes to earn cash.
Considering Cain is used to doing corporate events and publicity stunts, he's amped about performing at the Riverfront Theatre, a venue that will allow him to showcase his talents in a fresh setting.
"I'm really looking forward to it. It'll be the first theater show I've ever done," said Cain, who lives in Hartly.
    Does he have supernatural abilities?
While he doesn't claim to have other-worldly powers, there's a mystique to Cain's performances that leaves many spectators convinced he has a sixth sense. But in reality, Cain says his shows are built around "using the five senses and creating the illusion of a sixth sense."
And despite popular opinion, Cain isn't a magician, although his 4-year-old daughter, Olivia, was born on Harry Houdini's birthday (March 24).
He's not a psychic either, nor does he believe in them.
"Why don't you ever hear about a psychic winning the lottery?" asked Cain, who further discusses his disbelief of psychics in his new book "Conceptual Misdirections - A Discussion Between Modern Day Mind Benders," released in January.
"Telepathy, telekinesis and clairvoyance — these are terms people use to describe what I do," Cain explained. "Of course, it's all an illusion."
