Police are currently investigating a single vehicle crash that seriously injured a Millsboro man Saturday night near Ellendale.
The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m., as Kenneth O. Grinnell, 63, was operating a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on U.S. 113, just north of McColleys Chapel Road. For unknown reasons, the Cherokee left the west side of the roadway, said Cpl. Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police. The operator attempted to correct the issue and the vehicle re-entered the roadway and then back to the right before traveling off the west side of the roadway where it struck a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to rotate and continue southbound where it struck a ditch and became airborne before coming to a stop.
Grinnell, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. He was removed from the scene by EMS and initially transported to Milford Memorial Hospital before being flown to Christiana Medical Center. The extent and seriousness of Grinnell's injuries were unknown, police said.
Troopers are continuing their investigation into this incident. Traffic in the area of U.S. 113 and McColleys Chapel Road was impacted for approximately two hours as troopers investigated and cleared the crash.
