Preliminary numbers from the 2013 MidAtlantic Wine + Food Festival are in and the numbers are fabulous and indicative of what our small wonder can do in its quest to be a "World Class" state. 4400 attendees.
Guests from Texas, Arizona, California, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland, as well as international visitors from Czechoslovakia, England, Canada, South Africa and beyond (not to mention visiting chefs and winemakers from five continents). Last year, 1,100 people attended 11 events, which means the event quadrupled itself. Over half of the Festival's events sold out.
The Festival came to a thrilling Sunday closing at The Queen with the Gospel Brunch. A combined choir under the exciting direction of Dion LeMon of the Resurrection Cathedral Choir of Dover. The audience was drawn into fervent fits of frenzy. Many suggested they would change their current religion to Baptist!
The Festival Village, including the 1,400-bottle wine and spirits Bottle Shop, was a successful experiment, and a first-of-its-kind experience in Wilmington.
Props to my favorite DuPont Company President (at least of the 21st century) Ellen Kullman, for opening her home to guests for food and wine for the second straight year.
A packed house greeted the attendees, hosted by Dame Edna (Scott Mason of Newark, an award winning impersonator). The Dame was in a groove, simply obliterating the winners of the in-house Barny Awards and most especially Artistic Director Bob Kelly. The veteran director was attempting seriousness; Dame Edna would allow none of that, possums! She created chaos with her cheeky rejoinders. The Fabulous Grease Band had everyone up and dancing. Some I assure you had not jitterbugged for decades! Next up for them is LEGALLY BLOND, opening 5 April. NctStage.org 475.2313

Directed by Executive Director Bud Martin, SOUTH PACIFIC marks DTC's first production of a large-scale classic musical, with a cast of 26, including 5 local children, and a full 14 piece orchestra. Not only is this the first cast of this size in recent DTC history, but the show also promises one of the most stunning and clever set designs by Scenic Designer Dirk Durosette, incorporating both a functional jeep and the recreation of a World War II plane. The creative team includes local icon Choreographer and Vocal Director Sonny Leo. DelawareTheatre.org 594.1100
