  • The Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is putting the finishing touches on next week's first "Creative Couture Fashion and Art Show." The event will be held at Abbott's Grill and promises to be a one-of-a-kind fundraiser for the hospital.
"It's going to be a really fun event," said event co-chair Blythe Eggleston. "This is the first time we've ever done an event like this as a fundraiser and we're really hoping that the people will embrace the fresh concept."
The event will begin with a "Meet the artists" reception featuring participating Mispillion Art League artists, including Shirley Conley, Rosemary Connelly, Blythe Eggleston, Sarah Gallagher, Geri Gaskill, Sharon Hepford, Harry Humes, Gervasio Ruiz, Bobbie Rainy, Cathy Serwalt, Joanne Thompson and Cathy Walls.
Each artist is donating a small work, which will be placed on each table and taken home by one lucky person seated at the table. Cards by each of the artists will also be available for sale. Additionally, three artists will be offering to do commission work.
"As an artist myself, I just thought adding artwork to the event would be would a nice compliment to the other elements," said Eggleston. "Three of the artists have even graciously offered to do commission work. So, guests will be able to meet the artists, see examples of what they do and maybe order a rendering of their house or of their favorite local scene."
The fashion show will feature clothing from three Delaware boutiques: Coolspring Cottage of Coolspring, Twilla's of Lewes and Jane and Georgie of Rehoboth. Each boutique will supply a model, who will wear two outfits from her assigned shop.
"We are thrilled to have Sandy of Twilla's to be the fashion show moderator," said Blythe Eggleston of the Milford Memorial Auxiliary.
"The temperature is starting to rise and it is going to be so much fun to see the latest spring clothing trends for this year," said Eggleston.
Abbotts Grill will do double duty as the event location and caterer.
"Abbott's Grill has been great to us," said Eggleston. "The menu sounds so appetizing. There are several different kinds of salad, like chicken and pasta, as well as eggplant parmesan. For dessert, they're even making warm apple crisps with homemade whipped cream."
Tickets for a 50/50 raffle will also be for sale. The event will conclude with drawings for a $50.00 gift certificate to Abbott's Grill and a $150.00 gift certificate from Jane and Georgie.
Abbott's Grill will offer a buffet lunch at noon.
"We're still collecting donations," said Eggleston. "But, so far we have a beautiful bad from Blooming Boutique, a one-month fitness membership and several great gift cards."
Admission for the Creative Couture Fashion & Art Show is $35.00 per person. Tickets may be purchased at Reflections Gift Shop at Milford Memorial, through any member of the Milford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board or by calling Cynthia Jones at (302) 270-1842.
