Harrington man accused of pedaling with crack

A 31-year-old Harrington man is facing drug charges after police stopped him while he was riding a bicycle on Saturday.

An officer saw Gavin Hill nearly get struck by a vehicle after riding his bicycle into traffic on Clark Street near Howard Dill Avenue about 9:45 p.m., according to Harrington Police Department spokesman Lt. Earl Brode.

The officer stopped Hill’s bicycle, which was not equipped with a light, and reportedly noticed him drop crumpled napkin onto the ground.

Brode said the officer picked up the napkin, which contained about a gram of crack cocaine.

Hill is charged with possessing or consuming a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, littering on a highway, possession of drug paraphernalia, disregarding a traffic control device and operating a bicycle at night without a lamp.

Hill later was released on a $1,475 unsecured bond, Brode said.
