  • The Delaware Forest Service is seeking entrees for its 2013 Arbor Day Poster contest.
The contest is open to all public, private, charter and home schools in the state that have students in Kindergarten through fifth grade.
The theme of this year’s contest is “Trees Are Terrific … In All Shapes and Sizes,” which is intended to highlight the importance of tree diversity in community forests.
Every class that participates in the poster contest can receive a free loblolly pine seedling if they register by March 8.
The statewide winner will be chosen from among the winners in four age groups selected in each county. Entries will be judge based on their use of theme, originality, neatness and artistic expression.
All county-level winners will receive a $50 savings bond, an in-class Arbor Day presentation, an invitation to the State Arbor Day Ceremony on April 26 and a tree-inspired children’s book.
Winning posters also will be reprinted on canvas and framed for display throughout the year at state events, before being presented to the winner as a keepsake. Winning posters also will be displayed on the Delaware Forest Service website. Winners from the 2012 contest can still be seen at dda.delaware.gov/forestry/arborpost12.shtml.
The state-level winner will receive an additional $50 savings bond.
Teachers of students selected as winning artists will receive $50 for classroom materials.
All poster entrees must be received by March 28. Posters should be submitted to Ashley Peebles, Delaware Forest Service, 2320 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE, 19901.
