The Sussex Central boys basketball team improved to 11-8 on the regular season after a resounding 81-51 home victory over Henlopen Conference rival Milford Friday night.
Good things happen to basketball teams that have four out of five starters in double figures and you're playing in fron of the home crowd!
The Golden Knights took early command of the game by building a 12-5 lead through the first period thanks to good shooting and solid defense.
In the second period, Milford got their offense moving by tossing in 17 points. That production cut the lead down to a manageable 27-22 at the half.
The Golden Knights kicked into gear again and increased the lead to 47-36 after three quarters, before the final period got very interesting.
In the fourth quarter it seemed like Sussex Central could not miss, as their sharpshooters compiled an amazing 34 points in the period to clinch the run-away victory over the Buccaneers.
Typically, scoring 51 points in a high school basketball is usually enough to grab a victory, but not on a night when your opponent pours in nearly three dozen points in only eight minutes.
Milford was led in scoring by sophomore junior guard Tikeace Harris with 16 points, and Shakur Manzo had 10 points for the 10-9 Buccaneers.
Sussex Central was led offensively by Wanya Hanzer's 24 points, and Rashad Kelly totaled 13 points, and 16 rebounds, and Marcus Isler with 16 points and 8 boards.
