Harrington police made a pair of unrelated drunk-driving arrests on Saturday.
Edward W. Sonja, a 51-year-old Harrington resident, received his fifth DUI charge after police stopped his vehicle on South Dupont Highway near Jackson Ditch Road about 2:30 a.m., according to Harrington Police Department spokesman Earl K. Brode.
Officers also learned that he was driving on a suspended license and was wanted by the Court of Common Pleas in both New Castle and Kent counties.
Sonja is charged with DUI, driving on a suspended or revoked license, failure to report address change and failure to remain in a single lane. He is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $5,502 secured bond.
At about 10:20 p.m., police also arrested 35-year-old Harrington resident Angel R. Carroll after officers found her asleep behind the wheel of her vehicle while it was stopped in the middle of Clark St., Brode said.
Carroll is charged with DUI, failure to have a driver’s license in her possession, failure to have insurance identification in her possession and failure to have a registration card in her possession.
She later was released, pending a future appearance at Justice of the Peace Court 7, Brode said.
