  • Dawn Dickerson Kenton’s recent election to the post of co-president of the Milford New Century Club marks the third generation of her family serve in the position.
    Dickerson Kenton is the daughter of Elaine Townsend Dickerson, who served as the club’s president from 1988 to 1900, and the granddaughter of Virginia S. Townsend, who served a president from 1940 to 1942.
    Townsend, who was born in Bowers Beach in 1886 and graduated as valedictorian of Milford High School in 1904, wrote a social column for The Milford Chronicle. Born in 1925, her daughter, Elaine, also worked as columnist for the newspaper, writing “In the Air Force” from 1952 to 1969 and “Blue Hen Beat” from 1970 to 2002.
    The Milford New Century Club is a 115-year-old nonprofit organization dedicated to creating friendships, raising awareness of civic and community concerns and developing cultural and educational opportunities for the community.
    All women are invited to attend meetings at the New Century Club House, which occupies the former Milford Classical Academy at 18 Church St., at 1 p.m. on the first Monday of the month from October to May.
