  • The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center is seeking amateur radio operators interested in volunteering during disasters and other large-scale events.
An informal meeting for amateur radio operators will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 19 in the training room of the Sussex County EOC at 21911 Rudder Lane in Georgetown.
During the meeting, Director Joseph Thomas will describe the duties of the emergency center and explain how volunteer radio operators serve critical roles in crisis situations.
Amateur radio operations, or “hams,” regularly support the EOC by relaying field information like weather conditions, property damage and other observations that are vital to supplying a coordinated emergency response, particularly when conventional means, such as telephone and Internet service, are unavailable.
Guided tours of the Sussex EOC will follow the informational meeting.
The event is free and no registration is required. For more information, please call (302) 855-7801.
