  • James Hagan, like all the other captains of the Milford varsity swim team, is a four-year member of the squad.
He enjoys swimming for a lot of reasons. "It definitely keeps you in shape, but I also enjoy the competition aspects of swimming," he said.
"If I lose a race, I use that to motivate myself in practices and the following meets. That makes me work harder, so I will try even harder to win the next race," added Hagan.
Hagan said he enjoys people he swims with on a regular basis, "I really like my teammates and I like communicating with them in school, at practices and in meets."
The senior said he began swimming as a freshman at Milford and has enjoyed the experience. "I didn't make state that first year, but I got better in my sophomore year. Then, by junior year, I qualified in the 50 Meter, and so far this year, I have qualified in the 50 and 100 meters, and I'm hoping to do well in the state," he said.
Hagan said he plans to attend the University of Delaware in September after graduation.
There, he will study Accounting, but he's not sure about his future in competitive swimming. "I looked at the college swimmers' times, and they are really fast, so I don't know if I will compete in college, but I will keep swimming for fun, and to keep in shape," he said.
