Milford swim captain Phillip Berry is a top-notch, fast swimmer, who revealed he's been swimming since he was four years old. He enjoys school, but his eyes lighten up when he talks about his favorite sport.
"I never swam on a club team like some of my teammates, but I definitely love to swim. I enjoy the team and it's the most favorite sport that I participate in," he said.
Berry said practices can be grueling, but definitely worth the effort. "I know the practices keep me in shape and allow me to improve my times in the different events. And after some practices, I can see my times improving right away," Berry said. In addition, he stated that he and his friends and teammates really do have fun in practices because of the time they share together. "But we never tell the coaches about all the fun we have in practices," he said with a sly smile.
As a senior, Berry will conclude his scholastic career at Milford at the end of the season, or at the DIAA Delaware state swim meet in February. For now, he'll keep concentrating on school and swimming, especially the 100 Butterfly and the 200 Individual Medley, his two best events. After graduation, he plans to attend college, which may or may not include competitive swimming.
