A 53-year-old Milford resident died Sunday after being pinned underneath his tractor-trailer in Savanna, Okla.
Michael Gardner and his 53-year-old passenger Robin Gardner had stopped at a motel in Pittsburg County when he exited the cab about 10:45 a.m. to check on a rear trailer break that had frozen up due to the cold weather, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Gardner reportedly failed to set the brakes on the 2009 Volvo semi before crawling under the trailer in an attempt to free the brake.
When the brake released, the vehicle rolled over Gardner, dragging him 67 feet and pinning under the vehicle for about 10 minutes, police said.
Gardner was freed by the McAlester Fire Department and taken to McAlester Regional Health Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Robin Gardner was not injured.
