A Dover woman arrested Saturday on suspicion of drunk driving reportedly kicked a Harrington police officer and bit a nurse at Milford Memorial Hospital.
Officers stopped 29-year-old Meshonda A. Barnes near the intersection of South Dupont Highway and Milford-Harrington Highway for a traffic violation and smelled alcohol coming from her vehicle, according to a spokesman for the Harrington Police Department.
Barnes, who has twice been convicted of driving under the influence, refused to take a field sobriety test and was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital for a blood test, police said.
While at the hospital, Barnes reportedly became combative, kicked a police officer in the arm and bit a nurse. The officer and the nurse suffered minor injuries, police said.
After officers from the Milford Police Department arrived, hospital staff was able to complete the blood test on Barnes, police said.
Barnes is charged with third offense DUI, two counts of third-degree assault, resisting arrest, driving on a suspended or revoked license, menacing, disorderly conduct and several traffic charges.
Police said she also was wanted on outstanding warrants issued by the Kent County Court of Common Pleas, the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas and Sussex County Superior Court.
Barnes is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institute in Georgetown in default of a $9,250 secured bond and a $5,190 cash bond.
