Felton resident Wendy Surguy recently was named the 2012 Health Educator of the Year for Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital.
A certified wound ostomy care nurse, Surguy assists with the plan of care for inpatients with chronic or non-healing wounds, ostomy education and product management, and caring for patients with continence issues.
Hospital officials said her dedication to the advancement of wound care knowledge have resulted in new practice standards that have led to dramatic improvements in wound, ostomy and continence care
Surguy has worked for Bayhealth since 2011 and currently serves on Bayhealth’s Magnet Council and Electronic Document Council. She also serves as president of the Eastern Shore Affiliate of the Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse’s Society, a board member of the HealthCare Educators of Delaware and an active member of the Delmarva Chapter of the Safe a Leg Save a Life Foundation.
Surguy earned her associate degree from Pike’s Peak Community College in Colorado Springs, Colo., her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Wilmington University, her certification as a would ostomy continence nurse from Emory University in Atlanta, and is currently enrolled in the nurse practitioner graduate program at Wilmington University.
