A 51-year-old Greenwood man stabbed his elderly parents with a butcher knife Sunday morning and then called 911 to tell them what he’d done, according to police.
Ricky A Brewington’s 82-year-old father and 80-year-old mother fled to the Greenwood Fire Department and were later taken to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, where they were both listed in stable condition Sunday afternoon, according to Delaware State Police spokesman Cpl. John Day.
The stabbings reportedly occurred about 9 a.m. in the kitchen of the Greenwood home that the elderly couple share son in the 100 block of Broad Street.
After stabbing his parents multiple times, Brewington called 911 from the home to report what had just occurred, Day said.
A Greenwood police officer was dispatched to the residence and took Brewington into custody without incident, he added.
“We don’t know what the motive is right now,” Day said.
Brewington is charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony.
He is being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $150,000 cash bail, police said.
