  • A traffic stop near Milford led police to the discovery of 40 pairs of counterfeit sneaker on Monday.
A state trooper stopped 30-year-old Atlanta resident Eric J. Loatman's silver Chevrolet Malibu on Del. Route 1 near Wilkins Road, southeast of Milford, about 3:32 p.m. for speeding, according to a Delaware State Police spokesman.
During the traffic stop, the trooper noticed a large number of boxes in car and searched vehicle with Loatman's consent, police said.
The trooper found the boxes contained 40 pairs of Nike Air Force Ones, all with the same serial number.
Loatman claimed to have purchased the sneakers in New Jersey but was unable to provide a receipt, police said.
He was later charged with trademark counterfeiting, a misdemeanor, and cited for speeding before being released on a $1,000 unsecured bail.
A female passenger in Loatman's car was not charged, police said.
