  • A residential daycare near Houston was evacuated Tuesday while state police dismantled a meth lab discovered next door.
The daycare provider and two children between the ages of 2 and 4 were forced to leave as a precaution due to the volatile and hazardous chemicals involved in making meth.
Police discovered the meth lab at a home in the 1900 block of Deep Grass Lane while conducting a search resulting from a two-month investigation into the manufacturing of methamphetamine, a Delaware State Police spokesman said.
Officers from the Kent County Drug Unit and Milford Police Department arrived at the home about 12:30 p.m. Deep Grass Lane was closed for about three hours while the meth lab was dismantled and removed from the home.
Michael G. Cairo, 35, was taken into custody during the search and later charged with two counts of manufacturing meth and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.
He is being held at the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on a $9,000 secured bond.
