According to the Attorney General's Office, an investigation by the Child Predator Task Force into the production and possession of child pornography led to the Monday arrest of Randy Travis Newman, 24, of the 300 block of Erica Avenue in Frederica and the Nov. 15 arrest of Michael McCoy, 49, of Dover.
Two men from Kent County were arrested on child pornography charges within the past week.
Newman was initially arrested Nov. 2, after a forensic examination of multiple computers and additional devices that were seized during a search warrant revealed images of a nude underage boy, said a spokesman for the Attorney General's Office.
Newman was arrested and charged with two counts of dealing in child pornography. He was arraigned via videophone by JP Court No. 2 and was ordered held on $20,000 secured bail.
Investigators later positively identified the boy, and based on new evidence and the continuing investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for Newman, who had since been released after posting bail on the initial charges, the spokesman said.
Newman surrendered to authorities at Delaware State Police Troop 3 on Monday and was charged with one count of fourth-degree rape and one count of second-degree unlawful sexual contact. He was again arraigned via videophone by JP Court No. 2 and is being held at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of $23,000 secured bail.
The Attorney General's Office also announced the arrest of Michael McCoy, of Dover, after an online undercover investigation resulted in the execution of a search warrant for a residence on Murfield Court in Dover. The search was conducted by members of the Child Predator Task Force with assistance from a uniformed Delaware State Police officer and a Dover city police detective. Detectives seized several computers and multiple digital media devices, according to the Attorney General's Office. McCoy, who lived at the residence, became a person of interest during the search. A forensic examination of the computers revealed multiple images of child pornography. McCoy was later arrested and charged with 25 counts of dealing in child pornography. He was arraigned via videophone by JP Court No. 11 and is being held at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in lieu of $250,000 secured bail.
The investigation of both cases is ongoing.
