A Frankford man and a Dagsboro woman are facing dozens of criminal charges in connection with a slew of burglary and theft cases across Sussex County dating back to 2011.
Jake N. Fox, 22, and Heidi M. Hitchens, 24, were arrested Oct. 28 following a traffic stop in Ocean View, state police reported Tuesday.
During the traffic stop, an Ocean View police officer learned Fox and Hitchens were both wanted on outstanding warrants.
A subsequent search of their car turned up several items reported stolen, Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.
An investigation by state police and officers from the Ocean View and Bethany police departments later connected the couple to burglaries and thefts as far back as November 2001, Fournier said.
In those cases, Fox and Hitchens entered unoccupied homes and removed items ranging from jewelry, televisions, electronic devices, cash and prescription medication, he said.
Hitchens was arraigned on warrants filed Oct. 24 charging her with three counts of issuing bad checks. She also was charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy and theft of services before being released on an unsecured bond.
Hitchens turned herself in to police on Monday and received an additional 25 charges, ranging from burglary to criminal trespass. She later was released on a $9,700 unsecured bond.
Fox, who was committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution following his Oct. 28 arrest, is charged with 116 counts, ranging from burglary, felony theft, conspiracy, criminal trespass and theft of services. He is being held on a $63,100 unsecured bond.
