The Milford boys soccer team dominated the second half of action in a 6-2 home victory over visitng Delaware Military Academy (DMA) Tuesday evening at Briggs Stadium.
The Buccaneers had four different players find the range, but their attack was led by junior Andrez Luna, who tallied three goals, all in the second half.
"The guys came out and played very hard all night," said Milford coach Ken Outten.
"We had a letdown at one end in the first half, but we helped each other out and I'm proud of the way they played tonight, especially our seniors," he said.
DMA came out aggressively in the first few minutes and had two scoring opportunities, but the Bucs scored first, taking the lead on a great run down the right sideline by sophomore Peterson Moldelus in the ninth minute. Several minutes later, Enrique Escalante found an opening but hit the post. At the twelve minute mark, senior Connor Lingo scored on a header to build the lead to 2-0. DMA got on the board in the 35th minute on a goal by senior Ryan Sortino, who kicked the ball home after a deflection off the left post. Sortino's goal left the score at 2-1 at the half.
The second half was the Andrez Luna show as the diminutive junior scored in the 50th minute, the 55th minute and again in the 75th minute for a rare soccer hat-trick. In between Luna's goals, Justin Carrol scored for the Seahawks in the 53rd minute and Bucs' senior Philip Berry found the net in th 74th minute, bringing the home crowd to its feet.
"We had played them before, so we felt we knew had to defend against them. We put our speed up front and it really paid off for us tonight," said Outten.
Milford is now 7-4-2, and will wrap up the season Thursday, Oct. 25th on the road against Sussex Central beginning at 6:30 p.m. DMA's next match is on the road against Brandywine also on Thursday, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
