Milford football returns to the field this Friday night in the 2012 season opener against Concord.
Last season was one to forget for the Bucs after finishing 1-9. They dropped their first five games of the season, including their opener at Concord, and were never able to gain any momentum the rest of the season.
The Bucs lost twenty seniors from last year’s squad, making way for a fresh crop of student athletes ready to take on leadership roles and help build Milford back to a competitive football team.
First things first, find a way to beat Concord on Friday night.
Milford Head Coach Michael Tkach knows Concord provides a very stiff test for his club.
“They are once again a strong team that is well coached,” said Tkach. “They have some strong players that we need to contain and make sure we tackle well (out there). “
Of course, losing the first game of the season won’t make or break your year. However, it’s important for Milford to come out of Friday’s game with some momentum to build off. While a win would be great, Tkach wants to see improvement each week, win or lose.
“(A win) would be a great momentum builder for this season,” said Tkach. “We’re looking forward to each game and getting better each week.”
If Tkach and his players were looking for any extra momentum for Friday night, they’ll have it. Friday night is Hall of Fame night at Milford, where former players and coaches come together to share stories of past glory and to be recognized for their achievements while playing for the Bucs.
“Hall of Fame night is a great evening for our program as well as the community,” said Tkach. “It is a night that we get to honor some of the great players from the past that are part of our history.”
Tkach hopes his players take advantage of the opportunity to connect with Milford players of the past.
“It’s a neat opportunity for our present players to meet and hear about some of the players that have come and played before them,” Tkach said. “It’s our football family.”
The 2012 version of Milford Bucs football will get a chance to show where they stand in the Milford football family on Friday night. And who knows, maybe we’ll witness a performance from some future Milford Hall of Famers.
