  • Democratic Rep. Bill Carson of the 28th District has formally kicked off his campaign for a third term in the state House of Representatives.
First elected in a special election in 2007 when then-Rep. Bruce Ennis was elected to the state Senate following the death of longtime senator Jim Vaughn, Rep. Carson was re-elected in 2008 and 2010. A longtime advocate of community involvement, Rep. Carson is a former fire chief and president of Smyrna’s Citizens' Hose Company. He also is a longtime Little League coach and has been active in various veterans groups and other community activities.
“I have a strong commitment to our community and will continue to work in Dover to rein in government size and spending – which we have successfully done – while securing funding and support for our first responders, seniors and veterans,” said Rep. Carson, who also is a veteran. “I want our schools to have the tools necessary to give our children a quality, world-class education so they can compete for good jobs.”
Rep. Carson chairs the House Transportation/Land Use and Infrastructure Committee and sits on the Manufactured Housing, Agriculture, Veterans Affairs, Corrections, Natural Resources, Public Safety & Homeland Security and Judiciary committees.
He lives in Smyrna with his wife, Betty.
