  • Milford's First State Academy of Dance recently added several new instructors to its roster, rounding out the level of diversified dance education available to central Delaware dancers.
Warner Knowland, the new hip-hop instructor, has worked with celebrities such as Lil’ Mama, Shabba Doo Quinones, Slick Rick and Doug E. Fresh.  He’s also made appearances on “So You Think You Can Dance,” “America’s Got Talent” and a number of national and regional cable channels.
A locally trained dancer, Heather McKinney has also joined the staff of FSDA. McKinney has more than 20-years of dance experience in Classical Vaganova Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theater and more. She has also performed with various companies throughout Delaware, Maryland and Michigan. More recently, McKinney graduated from West Chester University, where she was a performing member of the WCU Dance Team for three years.
FSDA Director Michele Xiques is thrilled with the new additions.
“I’m excited to have fresh, new and incredible talent brought into the area,” Xiques said. “Their resumes, professionalism and experiences are what the kids are going to get the most from.”
Xiques added that Val Goncharov would also be coming aboard as a new staff member, keeping Russian “Vagonova” ballet alive at the dance company and in central Delaware.
And, due to popular demand, another class has been added to this year’s schedule as well.
“We’ve added ‘Mommy and Me,’ taught by Yvonne Plump, who has 15-years of experience in this type of class,” Xiques said. “It’s for ages two and three, where mothers will interact with their children to learn creative movement, musicality, colors and other skills.”
