Mr. Raymond D. “Dee” Lingo, of Millsboro, DE passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012. He was 82 years old.
Raymond D. or “Dee” was born on December 23, 1929 in Millsboro to the late Raymond and Ora Cannon Lingo and step-mother Ruth Dobson Lingo. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by his wife Ruth C. Lingo in 2010, three sisters, Virginia Griffin, Bertha Mae Vickers, Grace Baker, and a granddaughter, Megan.
Mr. Lingo was a graduate of Washington College in 1951. He then became a school teacher for the Indian River School District. He taught both math and social studies for Millsboro High School and Sussex Central Junior High for 37 years before retiring.
He was a beloved figure in the community. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War Era, a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Lions Club, and founder of the Millsboro Little League where he was an umpire for over 30 years, a high school baseball coach and inducted in the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992. He was a great dad. He was devoted to his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, fishing and photography.
He is survived by five sons; Ted Lingo and Ray Lingo both of Millsboro, DE; Jim Lingo and his wife Carolyn of Milford, DE; Jay Lingo and his wife Kathy of Milford, DE; Joe Lingo and his wife Terri of Lewes, DE; brother-in-law, Col. C. Roland Baker of Weems, VA; and 10 grandchildren, Michelle, Danielle, Jordan, Connor, Morgan, Sara, Courtney, Emily, Brady and Molly.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 16 at the Grace United Methodist Church, 330 E. Church St., Millsboro, DE 19966, where friends may call after 12 Noon. Pastor Ed Kuhling will officiate. Burial will follow at Millsboro Cemetery.
