Viola Pearce Willey of Camden died Friday July 6, 2012 at Country Rest Home, Greenwood. She was 89. She had been a recent resident of State Street Assisted Living in Dover.
Mrs. Willey was born June 24, 1923 in Wisconsin to the late Vernon Brooks Pearce and Viola May Sullivan Pearce.
She moved to Delaware in 1940 with her family and graduated from Milford High School in 1941. Mrs. Willey worked for Dr. John Baker in Milford for many years before retiring and moving to Dover in 1967. She was an active member for many years at Christ Episcopal Church in Milford and of St. James Anglican Church in Georgetown. Mrs. Willey had many friends and numerous hobbies, including genealogy, gardening and needlepoint. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Horace B. Willey, September 28, 2011, her son Terry Willey in 2005 and her brother William Brooks Pearce in 1988.
She is survived by her daughter, Vernell Willey Abella and her husband Michael of Dover; grandchildren, Melody Abella Wyatt and her husband Brian of Arlington, VA, Dr. Holly Smith and her husband Michael of Magnolia, Lt. Col. Steven Willey of Smyrna and David Willey of Arlington, Va.; great granddaughters, Leah Willey and Faith Smith; nephew, Brad Pearce and his wife Jeannie of Dover.
Funeral services will be held 2pm, Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Calvary Assembly of God Church, 1141 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call from 1:30 - 2. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Harvest Years Senior Center, 30 S. Street, Camden, DE 19934.
