Delaware State Police troopers are investigating the burglary to a shed that left a Delmar homeowner injured after  he confronted the suspect Thursday night.

The 22-year-old male homeowner was standing outside of his house when he noticed that the door to his shed had been tampered with and opened at approximately 11:50 p.m. Thursday, State Police Sgt. Paul G. Shavack said. As he went to check on the shed he observed a suspect running across his yard.

The homeowner jumped on an ATV and chased the subject, cornering him at the edge of the property, Shavack said. A physical struggle ensued, and the suspect knocked the homeowner to the ground. The suspect  then struck the victim in the head with an unknown, blunt object.

The perpetrator then fled on foot into a wooded area, Shavack said. The 22-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released with minor injuries from the assault, he said.

He described the suspect as a white male, 25 to 35 years of age, between 6-foot and 6-foot-2 tall and 170 to 190 pounds,  with average build. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark colored pants.

If anyone has any information in reference to this incident, they are asked to contact Troop 4 Property Crimes Detectives at 302-856-5850 Extension #2 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333. Information may also be provided via the internet at www.tipsubmit.com
