  • The Milford Bucs defeated Caravel 3-1 on Saturday in the DIAA baseball state semifinals to move onto the championship game.
David Michael pitched a complete-game, giving up only 1 run on 3 hits while striking out 7 for the win.
The Bucs struck first on offense, scoring a run in the first inning on a Nick Grant RBI triple to give Milford a 1-0 lead. Milford would strike again in the second inning; Jason Parker slapped an RBI double scoring Cesar Vazquez who had double two batters earlier.
In the fourth inning Phillip Berry hit a ball to deep left field which was originally ruled a ground rule double. After some conversation amongst the umpires it was ruled a homerun, giving Milford a 3-0 lead.
Caravel finally got on the board in the bottom of the sixth on a Tyler Williams RBI single scoring Chad Bradford. After the Williams single Michael retired the next three batters sending the game into the 7th with Milford up 3-1.
Caravel drew two walks in the bottom of the seventh to put the tying run at home-plate, but Michael retired both Thomas Lynch and Tyler Williams on strikes to end the game.
The Bucs will take on St. Mark's, who defeated Sussex Tech on Saturday, Tuesday in the championship game at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, Del.
