Ernest White Jefferson, 97, of Salisbury died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born in Slaughter Neck, DE he was the son of the late Wallace White Jefferson and Nora Ella Clifton Jefferson.
Raised in Milford, Mr. Jefferson was a 1933 graduate of Milford High School and was a WWII Army veteran serving in the 69th Infantry Division, 881st Field Artillery Unit. On September 26, 1937 he married Beatrice Quillen and they spent 73 years together until her death in 2010. In 1958 he transferred from Milford to Salisbury and after 42 years retired from Triangle Oil in Salisbury where he was the warehouse manager. Mr. Jefferson and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United State and Canada. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church, Happy Timers, and AARP.
Mr. Jefferson is survived by a nephew, Ronald Quillen and his wife Toni; niece, Michele Johnson and her partner Carol Alamares; a great-niece, Allyson; two great-nephews, Jesse and Jordan; special friends, Jacalyn Ford and family, Jack and Mary Callaway, many dear cousins and friends, and a cat named Missy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice P. Jefferson.
A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Milford Community Cemetery. Rev. Rob Townsend will officiate.
