A near fight at the end of a foul-plagued game brought police to the court to separate players after the Bucs had an emotional loss Thursday night.

The Smyrna boys basketball team beat Milford 69-62 Thursday night in a high-tempered game. In the fourth quarter, the refs had to tell players “stop jawing and start playing” during free-throw shots.

The entire game was plagued with fouls with Smyrna shooting 26 for 37, and the Bucs shooting 9 for 17.

Then after the buzzer, the crowd poured onto the floor and police stepped in to keep players from the two teams apart. The two teams were quickly moved to the locker rooms, separately, to end the emotional night.

The win puts Smyrna, ranked 14 in the state, at a record of 13-3. Milford’s record stands at 9-6.
