A lightning strike sparked a fire that ripped through a Farmington-area home early Friday morning, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.


A lightning strike sparked a fire that ripped through a Farmington-area home early Friday morning, according to the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire was reported by the home’s occupants shortly before 1:30 a.m. in the 800 block of Staytonsville Road, near Wolfs Trail End Drive, Harrington.

The occupants were able to safely evacuate the structure and were uninjured.

The Farmington Fire Company responded to the 911-call and arrived to find heavy fire coming from the home. Harrington, Houston, Greenwood and Felton fire companies also responded to assist, fire marshals reported.

One firefighter was transported to Milford Memorial Hospital by ambulance for chest pains.

The fire was placed under control at 3:45 a.m. Damages were estimated at $200,000.
