Doris Geneva Harvey, of Magnolia, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was 67.


Doris Geneva Harvey, of Magnolia, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. She was 67.

Mrs. Harvey was born in Zebulon, N.C., the daughter of the late Richard Hildmon and Martha (Wainwright) Murray.

She began her career working in housekeeping at Milford Memorial Hospital for eight years. She was a homemaker for several years and in 1982, went to work for D.A.S.T. as both a dispatcher and a bus driver. She left work in 1990, going on disability. She was a member of T.O.P.S. in Wyoming.

She enjoyed needlepoint, doing crossword puzzles, camping and going to yard sales. She loved her pets and was an avid dog lover. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved babies.

She is survived by her companion Floyd Mitchell of Magnolia; two daughters, Wanda Strauser and her husband Alvin of Felton and Brenda Birkholtz of Magnolia; two sons, Franklin Harvey of Magnolia and Raymond Harvey of Wilmington; two sisters, Marjorie Chambers of Greenwood and Lois Williamson of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, Cynthia, Jessica, Crystal, Patrick, Robert, Doris and Marguerite; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009 at the McKnatt, Carpenter & Baker Funeral Home, Harrington. Burial was in Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
