THURSDAY, JAN. 29

 The Ionie Tribe Council #13, of Milford, is having a fundraiser at the Roadhouse Steak Joint, Midway location. The Council will receiver 10 percent of the total receipts for that day. The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Council will greet visitors from 5 until 7 p.m.  For more information, please call 335-5656.



SATURDAY, JAN. 31

An Evening of Friendship at the Shawnee Country Club, sponsored by the Milford Rotary Club, will be held from 7 until 10 p.m. There will be food, entertainment, and door prizes. All proceeds will go to benefit the Arts and Sciences programs of the Milford School District. Opportunities to be a sponsor begin at $250.Ticket prices are $50 per person and $90 per couple. Music will be provided by both Milford Chorus and Ed Snyder & the Swing Notables.

Christian Tabernacle Academy is having an indoor yard sale 10 to 3 p.m. in the school gym. Rental space is available. For a $10 donation, we will provide a 12 x 12 space with two tables. Please contact the Academy office at 422-6471 to reserve a space.

The Milford Boys & Girls Club is having a ribbon cutting and carnival from 11 until 2 p.m.

The Annual Sussex County 4-H Pubic Speaking Contest will be held at the Elbert N. & Ann V. Carvel Research & Education Center, 16483 County Seat Highway, (Route 9, .25 miles west of Sussex Tech H.S.), Georgetown, with speeches begin at 6:30 p.m. Speaking before a crowd of people can be an intimidating exercise. But for many Sussex County 4-H youth ages 8 to 19, this experience is demystified and made more comfortable because of practice and participation in this annual contest. During the judging process, refreshments will be served. County winners in each age division will advance to state completion in July during the Delaware State Fair.

VCF Ruritan dinner will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Ruritan lane in Viola. The dinner will consist of Chicken salad, dumplings and ham and is all you can eat. The dinner costs $10 for adults and $5 for children. For more information, please call 284-4464 or 284-4090.

MONDAY, FEB. 2

The Milford New Century Club will be meeting at 12:30 p.m. and will be having their 111th Anniversary luncheon. The Clubhouse is located at 18 Church Street.



TUESDAY, FEB. 3

Bayhealth Medical Center is holding an open house and ribbon cutting for its new Retail Shops at Bayhealth at 9 a.m. in the main hallway at Kent General Hospital. Refreshments and samples of select food items will be available. Bayhealth’s new Retail Shops opened on Dec. 15 and have revolutionized the hospital retail experience. Bayhealth is the only hospital in Delaware to implement multiple retail concepts, which include a Café & Convenience Store, a Gift & Floral Store, a Mom & Baby Store, and ER-to-Go.

The Evening Shade Garden Club will hold an open meeting at 7 p.m. at Parks and Recreation Building in Milford. The program will be on the care and feeding of cactus. For more information call 422-1785.



WEDNESDAY, FEB. 4

The Kent County 33rd Democrat District will hold it’s meeting at 7 p.m. in the Frederica Methodist Church.  This meeting is open to the public. Any registered Democrat in the 33r District is eligible to vote. The purpose of the meeting is to elect new officers and committee people for the 33rd District. Jack Pot Bingo at Cape Henlopen Senior Center, the doors open at 4:30 p.m. and early bird games begin at 5:30 p.m., regular games start at 6 p.m. The bingo will cost $20, which includes one game pack, three specials, one slice of pizza, dessert and beverage.  For more information, please call 227-2055.



THURSDAY, FEB. 5

Local Chapter 1174 of Active & Retired Federal Employees will hold their monthly luncheon and business meeting at noon, in the Dover Sheraton Hotel. Our speaker will be Wayne Gorben, a taxpayer advocate employed by an independent organization within the Internal Revenue Service. FRIDAY, FEB. 6

SATURDAY, FEB. 7

The Coastal Magic All Star Cheerleading organization will be hosting a Basic Defensive Driving Course at our training facility in Lincoln from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The cost is $35 per person (non-refundable). For registration or more information, please contact Lynn at 381-0795.

Lulu Ross Elementary PTP is hosting an Applebee’s Breakfast Fundraiser from 8 to 10 a.m. Parents and teachers will be “serving” and assisting in kitchen duties. Tickets are $5 for both children and adults and proceeds will go towards our students’ field trip fund. Tickets will be sold at the school during school hours.

The Milford Middle School will be hosting a Family Skate Night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. All Elementary and Middle School students and their families are invited to attend. Admission is $3 plus skate rental if needed. Door prizes will be given away throughout the evening. Please come and enjoy and night of fun with your family and friends.



WEDNESDAY, FEB. 11

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Blue Hen VFW Post 6483 in Milford will have a winter soup sale from 11 to 7 p.m.  Vegetable Beef Soup will be sold by the pint for $3 or two pints for $5. Milford Elks Lodge will be hosting a Valentine’s Day Dance from 8 to 12 p.m. The dance will feature music by “Just Kiddin’ Around” DJ, free hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, door prizes and a silent auction. Coastal Magic will be holding a scrapbooking fundraiser from 6 to 11 p.m. and on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 8 to 5 p.m. at the Coastal Magic Training Facility, 7544 Marshall Street, Lincoln. The events cost $25 per person for both sessions. This includes snacks and beverages on Friday night and breakfast snacks, lunch, and beverages on Saturday. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 4

Southern Delaware Therapeutic and Recreational Horseback Riding will be having a fundraiser at The Roadhouse Steak Joint, in Rehoboth. The Roadhouse Steak Joint will donate 10% of the entire day’s food purchases to SDTRHR. Representatives from SDTRHR will be at the restaurant from 5 until 8 p.m. selling tickets for the 50/50 raffle. You do not need to be present to win.



SATURDAY, MARCH 7

The Milford Senior Center is celebrating their 2nd Annual Gala “Sounds of the 50’s” in the Crystal Room, 111 Park Avenue, Milford, starting at 5:30 p.m. For just $30 per ticket you will receive a full course meal, live auction, 50’s style entertainment and much more. The Evening Shade Garden Club meets on the first Tuesday of every month, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Parks and Recreation Building.  For more information call 422-1785.

The “Sea Purls” Chapter of The Knitting Guild Association meets on the first Wednesday of each month from 10 to 2 p.m. at The Cheer Community Center in Georgetown on the corner of Route 9 and Sand Hill Road.
