Thomas W. Bennett, Sr., of Milton, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa. He was 61.


Thomas W. Bennett, Sr., of Milton, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at Jefferson Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa. He was 61.

Mr. Bennett was born in Milford, the son of Gladys A. Bennett and the late Norman Bennett.

Mr. Bennett was a graduate of Milford High School. He was a farmer all of his life working the family farm in Milford. He was a member of Crossroad Community Church, Georgetown. Tom enjoyed going to breakfast with his friends and especially liked going to the Bennett Retreat at Mallard Landing. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, watching NASCAR and taking quiet drives throughout the Sussex County countryside, checking out all of the farmland. He loved going out to dinner up until he became ill.

A special passion of Tom’s was horse racing. He loved going to the races at Harrington and Dover, as well as watching the races on both the Internet and television. He enjoyed going to the Clark Stables on Coastal Highway to watch horses train and in September, he began helping out with jogging the horses around the track. His one dream was to someday own his own racehorse.  His special love, though, was his family. He especially loved doting over and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to his father,

Tom was preceded in death by his grandson Isaiah Bennett in 2007.

He is survived by his wife Diana; a son Thomas W. Bennett, Jr. and his wife Christina, of Gainesville, Ga.; his mother Gladys A. Bennett, of Milford; a step-son Michael Millman, of Milford; and step daughter Michelle Biggs and her husband Philip, of Greenwood and five grandchildren: Gabriel Bennett, Bethany Bennett, Luke Biggs, Megan Biggs and Brady Biggs.

Services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 at Crossroad Community Church, Georgetown.

Burial was in Slaughter Neck Cemetery, Argos Corner. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnell Cancer Center,  424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE  19958.
