Here is a list of support and social groups for Delawareans with MS.
Sussex Shore Group Two meets from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month at the CHEER Community Center, 20520 Sandhill Road For more information, call Jamie at 684-4513 or Kay at 422-9584. The next meeting is Jan. 14.

Bayhealth offers Infant Care Series
New parents, take note: Bayhealth offers a two-part Infant Care Series. The program provides information on basic infant care and gives parents the confidence in their ability to take care of their infant safely after they leave the hospital.
The two-part session will focus on basic information such as how to properly burp, diaper, feed and care for a newborn’s skin. Parents will also receive information on newborn characteristics, when to contact the physician and developmental milestones, as well as details about car seat safety, SIDS, shaken baby syndrome, crying, colic, sleep schedules and bathing your baby.
This class costs $10 and is held on the first two Thursday evenings of the month at Kent General Hospital. The next session begins Jan. 1. To register and learn about the class location, call Bayhealth’s Education Department at 744-7135 or 877-453-7107.
Parkinson’s Disease Support Group
Bayhealth Medical Center hosts a Parkinson’s disease support group at Kent General Hospital. The group provides information about living with Parkinson’s disease and is an open forum for discussion. An occasional guest speaker will stop by to address topics that arise within the group.
The support group meets the first Friday of each month in the General Foods Conference Center from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The next meeting is Jan. 2.

Support group for survivors
of accidents and murder
The Mental Health Association of Delaware in conjunction with People’s Place is offering a monthly support group for people who have lost a family member, friend or co-worker to a sudden and violent death. The Survivors of Accident or Murder support group meets from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in Milford. The next meeting is Jan. 6. The meetings are confidential, but registration is required by calling 422-8026, ext. 116. The meetings are held at People’s Place in Milford.
Breastfeeding Classes and Support Groups at Bayhealth
Bayhealth Medical Center offers the following free breastfeeding classes and support groups:
•Breastfeeding Class: meets at Milford Memorial Hospital from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month in the ABC Conference Room, and at Kent General Hospital the first Wednesday of every month in the General Foods Conference Room. The next meeting is Jan. 6.
•Breastfeeding Support Group: meets at Kent General Hospital from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month in the 6th Floor Women’s Services Conference Room A & B. The next meeting is Jan. 13.

Cancer support group
at Wellness Community
The Wellness Community-Delaware will be offering an evening cancer support group for those who have been touched by cancer beginning on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 6:00 p.m. This group is open to anyone that has been touched by cancer, including the family, friends and caregivers of someone that has been diagnosed with cancer.
This professionally facilitated group will meet at The Wellness Community – Delaware, located at 812 S. Bradford St., Dover. Topics of discussion in this group include but are not limited to, the effects of a cancer diagnosis, information on treatments and side effects as well as ways to deal with a cancer diagnosis. Anyone interested in this evening support group is asked to call 734-0898 to register.
The Wellness Community-Delaware is part of a national nonprofit organization that provides support, education and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones. Through participation in professionally led support groups, educational workshops and mind/body classes, people affected by cancer learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce isolation and restore hope regardless of the stage of disease. Seekers Support Group
Bayhealth hosts the Seekers Support Group for people who are blind or visually impaired.
Meetings are held from 1 to 3 p.m. the second Saturday of each month in Milford Memorial Hospital’s Rehab Conference Room. The next meeting will be held on Jan. 10.

Bayhealth offers Better
Breathing Support Group
Bayhealth offers the Better Breathing Support Group to help patients and their families cope with emphysema, chronic bronchitis and other chronic respiratory conditions.
The support group meets from 3 to 4 p.m. the second Monday of January, March, May, September and November at Kent General Hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging Conference Room across from the Pulmonary Rehab Department. The next meeting is in Jan. 12.

People’s Place child
mental health support group
People’s Place, in conjunction with the Mental Health Association of Delaware, is offering a monthly support group for parents of children diagnosed with mental health issues. The group will meet from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at the People’s Place Counseling Center in Milford. The next meeting is Jan. 12. The meetings are free and confidential. Pre-registration is required.

Bayhealth offers free
Bayhealth Medical Center offers free osteoporosis screenings (bone density measurement) to the community.
Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and more likely to break. Patients place their heel in a bone density scanner that checks the bone for early stages of osteoporosis. The schedule is as follows:
•From 9 to 11 a.m., the second Tuesday of each month at Kent General Hospital’s Education Department located at 208 W. Water St. in Dover. The next screening is Jan. 13.
•From 9 to 11 a.m., the third Wednesday of January, May and September at Milford Memorial Hospital Women’s Wellness Center. The next screening is in Jan. 21.

Tobacco Cessation Program
series starting soon
Bayhealth Medical Center’s Tobacco Cessation Program is a seven-week series that offers the support and guidance you need to stop using tobacco for the rest of your life through behavior modification, exercise, diet, stress reduction, and nicotine replacement therapy. In addition, the program focuses on relapse prevention with a long-term plan for success.
The next series will meet weekly beginning Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This session will be held at a new location, Smyrna-Clayton Medical Services located at 315 N. Carter Road in Smyrna. The series is free to all Delaware residents.
This program is made possible through the Delaware Division of Public Health’s Tobacco Cessation Community Contract. Funding for the contract is provided by the Delaware Health Fund and managed by the American Lung Association of Delaware.
Diabetes Insulin Pump Club
of Lower Delaware
The monthly meeting of the Diabetes Insulin Pump Club meet from 7 to 8 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month except July and August. The meetings will still take place in the Rehab Conference Room located at 560 South Governors Ave., Dover. The next meeting is Jan. 14.
This is a free support group for individuals with an insulin pump or those who have insulin dependent diabetes.

Bayhealth Medical Center offers monthly diabetes support group meetings.
At Milford Memorial Hospital, meetings are held in the Rehab Conference Room from 2 to 3 p.m. on the third Monday of every month except December. The next meeting is Jan. 19.
At Kent General Hospital, meetings are held in the Rehab Conference Room from 2 to 3 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month. The next meeting is Jan. 20.
The group is designed to give people with diabetes an open forum for the exchange of information and support. It also provides the opportunity to generate enthusiasm and motivation.

Living with Cancer Support Group
The group meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at the Milford Church of the Nazarene Chapel, across from Milford Bowling. The next meeting is Jan. 20.

Support Group meetings
Bayhealth Medical Center’s Grief Support Group meets at Milford Memorial Hospital for anyone who has lost a loved one.
Milford Memorial Hospital meetings will continue to be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the hospital chapel. The next meeting at Milford Memorial Hospital is Jan. 20.

Bayhealth offers monthly
Bayhealth Medical Center will offer low-cost mammograms every month in Dover, Milford and Middletown.
The low-cost mammograms will be offered from 1 to 3 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month. The next screenings will be held on Jan. 21, at the following locations:
•Bayhealth Women’s Center at Kent General, 540 S. Governors Ave., Dover.
•Bayhealth Women’s Center at Milford Memorial, 200 Kings Highway, Suite 3, Milford.
•Middletown Medical Center
The screenings are made possible in part by a grant from the Bayhealth Foundation to address the needs of uninsured and underinsured women in lower Delaware.

Cardiovascular screening schedule
Cardiovascular screenings are available from 9 to 11 a.m. the third Wednesday of every month in Room 206 of the Grier Building at Milford Memorial Hospital. The next screening is Jan. 21.
Free screenings are offered thanks to the Chronic Disease Grant from the State of Delaware. It is important to note that participants must register in advance, be uninsured or underinsured and answer some questions to see if they qualify. In addition, appointments are required at some locations.

Mental health services offered
The Mental Health Association in Delaware is pleased to announce the start of a new depression support groups in southern Delaware. The group schedule is Dover on Mondays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and in Milford on Wednesdays from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
While support groups are not intended to take the place of professional mental health services, they can serve as a beneficial complement to the services. They enable the individuals attending to discuss the effect that depression or bipolar disorder may have on their lives with other individuals who have similar
The groups are confidential and safe. Individuals interested in participating in these or any of the other support groups offered are encouraged to call the Mental Health Association in Delaware for more information and registration.

Breast cancer support is available
The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition Peer Mentor Support Program for Breast Cancer provides free one-on-one support and education to those newly diagnosed with breast cancer. DBCC Peer Mentors are trained breast cancer survivors who wish to reach out to help and support others with breast cancer. If you are newly diagnosed, are currently in treatment, are experiencing a recurrence or are a long-term survivor who needs someone to talk to, our peer mentors are here to help you. They can also offer support to spouse, partners, family members and caregivers.

Bayhealth Medical Center offers its blood pressure clinic program weekly.
Free blood pressure screenings are held from 9 to 11 a.m. each Wednesday at Kent General Hospital and from 9 to 11 a.m. each Thursday at Milford Memorial Hospital.

Bayhealth Medical Center will offer the Steps to Healthy Aging Clinics as an opportunity for you to meet one-on-one with a registered nurse from Bayhealth’s Education Department to confidentially monitor your blood pressure, pulse and weight, and to discuss any health topic of concern to you.
Clinics will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. every Thursday in Room 206 on the second floor of the Grier Building adjacent to Milford Memorial Hospital.
Clinics will also be held every Tuesday from 9 to 11 a.m. in Dr. John Mannion’s office, Suite 101 A on the first floor of the Medical Office Building at 540 S. Governors Ave.

Total joint replacement class
Bayhealth’s total joint replacement classes at Kent General and Milford Memorial hospitals familiarize patients scheduled for a total joint replacement with the expected plan of care. The class includes a tour of the nursing unit and inpatient therapy department.

Bayhealth Ostomy Support Group
Bayhealth Medical Center offers an Ostomy support group for people with ostomies and their caregivers.
The support group will meet to review new products, discuss new management techniques, support and problem-solving. Occasional speakers will also join the group on special topics. The group will be led by Bayhealth nurse Karen Merson, BSN, RN, CWOCN.

The Wellness Community offers Monday Morning Yoga Class
The Wellness Community-Delaware is now offering a weekly Monday morning Yoga class open to anyone who has been touched by cancer. Caregivers and family members are welcome. This program, facilitated by Marianne Wolskee, a certified yoga instructor, will teach us the yoga philosophy as well as lead us in some light exercises and yoga techniques that have been shown to boost the immune system and help manage stress. Practicing yoga and doing some light stretching and exercising can help you get past negative thoughts and introduce thought processes that help you heal. Hearing Loss Association
of Delaware Support Group
Over 31 million people in the United States are dealing with hearing loss today. Bayhealth Medical Center is holding the Hearing Loss Association of Delaware Support Group for individuals with hearing loss and their family members.
The support group is held the first Tuesday of every month (except June through August) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The meeting is located at Kent General Hospital in the 6th Floor Women’s Center Conference Room.

Prostate Cancer Support Group
The Southern Delaware Prostate Cancer Support Group is for any individual who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, at any the stage of treatment or recovery. Spouses, friends and other family members are welcome to attend.
The group meets in two location sites – Milford Memorial Hospital’s Conference Room A and Kent General Hospital’s Outpatient Rehab Conference Room. Meetings are held from 7 to 8 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month. The group meets at Kent General Hospital on odd-numbered months and at Milford Memorial Hospital on even-numbered months. The next meeting, at Milford Memorial Hospital, is in Feb. 17.
