Lulu M. Ross School collecting Campbell’s Labels
To kick off this year’s label collection drive, Lulu Ross Elementary School is asking parents, teachers and friends in the community to collect product labels that can be redeemed for free educational merchandise. You can help us to earn things such as computers, audio/visual equipment, sports equipment, reference books and musical instruments simply by collecting labels and sending them into the Lulu Ross Elementary School. We ask that you simply turn in the whole label and we will clip them for the school.
This year our goal is to collect at least 15,000 labels. You can view a full list of participating products at www.LabelsForEducation.com. For more information on how to be a part of Lulu Ross Elementary School’s Label collection drive, call the school’s coordinator Alice Metzner at 422-6958. The 2008-2009 Label program runs until June 1. Our school is also collecting Box Tops for Education. These can be found on General Mills cereal, Pillsbury items. A full list of eligible products can be viewed at www.boxtop4education.com. Each box top is worth 10 cents, which goes directly toward things for our students.

We need suggestions, too, on a date for our fun-filled event. If there are any MHS teachers out there who would like to be featured in a “guess that teacher” game show, please contact us as well. You may get a free dinner out of it!

Mispillion Art League to offer Basic Sketching class
If you wish to learn graphite drawing, with an emphasis to solid perspective, shadowing and highlights, tone and value this may be the class for you. The Mispillion Art League is now taking registrations for our upcoming “Basic Sketching” class to be held on Saturday, Jan. 17 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at our gallery at 127 N.W. Front St. in Milford. The class instructor will be artist, Robert Murphy. A practicing artist for over 25 years, specializing in graphite drawing, Robert has participated in many area art shows. Among those are the Chestertown Waterfowl Festival and Art on the Green. He holds an associate degree and has attended many art classes at the Dover, Rehoboth and Chestertown Art Leagues.
Every piece of art begins with a sketch of the subject. Regardless of the media, several factors remain true. Shape, value, shading and perspective each play a key role when trying to become a successful artist. The Basic Sketch Class will cover all of these from line drawing, to the finished project. Whether you wish to become an artist or you are already a practicing artist, going back to the fundamentals can be enjoyable as well as educational.
Cost for MAL members is $45 and non-members $50. All needed materials will be provided. Your check made out to the Mispillion Art League may be mailed to Judy Struck, 12 Victoria Drive, Milford, DE 19963. Please write your name and the class title on the reference line of your check. Bring a bagged lunch with you to class and prepare to have a wonderful day. Any questions may be directed to Judy at 424-8361. Class registration ends January 15.
