Dickey’s Barbecue Pit will host a pulled pork sandwich eating competition
in Dover on Saturday, July 14. Competitors will include top-ranked eaters Joe Menchetti and Ian Hickman.
Dickey’s Barbecue will feature the first-ever sanctioned “Pulled Pork Sandwich Showdown Championship” in Dover.
Pulled pork sandwiches, a well-known Southern staple and popular choice at the national franchise known as Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, will team up with the New York-based Association of Independent Competitive Eaters for the Northeast Pulled Pork Sandwich Showdown Eating Championship on Saturday, June 14, to be held in Dover.
“The pulled pork sandwich will finally be taking center stage and given its due recognition,” AICE Chairman, Arnie “Chowhound” Chapman said. “Folks from the South and the West and those Northeasterners lucky enough to have a Dickey’s Barbecue Pit near them, have known about the joy, delight and convenience of a great pulled pork sandwich and the advent of the nation’s first championship pulled pork eating contest will be a grand celebration of the pulled pork sandwich and the great American cuisine known as barbecue. Also, the long held Southern tradition of etiquette and manners will be in full observance as food warriors will be required to eat their many sandwiches while adhering to ‘Picnic Style‘ rules.”
Food warriors will compete for $850 in prize money and the prestigious title of Northeast Pulled Pork Sandwich Showdown Champion. Some of the best food warriors from the Northeast and the nation are expected to “belly-up” to the table.
The nation’s No. 1 ranked eater “Gentleman” Joe Menchetti, from Wallingford, Conn., will attend. In addition, the nation’s third-ranked food warrior Ian “The Invader” Hickman, from Virginia, and other top professional eaters from New York and New Jersey and the Eastern seaboard will also set their sights and stomachs on the Northeastern Pulled Pork Sandwich Showdown.
